A staggering 92% of customers read online reviews before buying something.
The power of word of mouth is undeniable.
Unfortunately many digital product creators still undervalue the influence that testimonials can have on their potential customers.
Social proof is a crucial element of any pre-purchase experience as it adds credibility and builds trust.
They are so effective that I have an entire lesson dedicated to building an effective collection process in my notion creator course.
In a matter of seconds, a potential customer can go from being clueless about your brand to being highly intrigued by what you have to offer.
That’s why today I want to help you get started with collecting testimonials for your digital product business.
How to Collect Testimonials
This is my current process, feel free to use it:
Pick a Collection Tool
Personally, I use senja. Their tool has been helpful in giving my audience a review process that is user friendly and straight to the point. You can send a link to your audience that allows them to leave their review, and you get access to dozens of creative ways to share them afterwards.
Choose Your Audience
From here you have two options:
1) Target your entire audience with this review campaign
2) target a specific segment of customers
If you sell on platforms like Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy, you can easily narrow your email broadcast down to customers that have purchased a specific product.
By doing so, you are able to personalize the message even more.
Write A Personalized Message
Thank your audience for their support (which is the entire reason you get to contact them in the first place) and make your ask short and sweet.
This doesn't need to be a novel. It's not a product launch or press release, it's asking for a favor.
Here is an example of what I have used:
Offer an Incentive
Your audience is taking time out of their day in order to help you, so make it worth their time.
Since I sell Notion templates, I do this by offering a paid template in exchange for their testimonial.
For example, I offered a social media planner template to those who bought my freelancer kit because there’s a chance they’re also working on building their audience.
The value you will get from someone sharing their experience with your product is 100% worth it.
Save & Share Your Testimonials
Using senja, you can export your testimonials as images and add them to your product pages, website, social posts, product hunt launches, emails, etc.
The best part? You can keep and use them forever - there is no limit to their value.
Wrapping Up
Use this process to increase the credibility of your brand when it comes to selling digital products.
But keep in mind the gift is the key component of this approach.
You’ve created a win-win scenario simply by giving your audience an incentive to help you.
If you have a quality product I trust that you’ll start seeing the impact of testimonials over time as you collect more and more.
